Buttermilk Ranch Dressing

This is one of those recipes I use all the time, but never bothered to write down up until now. I make just as much as I need for one salad on the rare occasions we eat salad and then proceed not to worry about it. As all ranch dressing are, it’s creamy and makes a great dip for just about anything. The good thing about making your own is that you can tweak the fat content by using low fat sour cream and mayo (buttermilk is naturally low fat). I use the full fat stuff, but I also only use a tiny bit of dressing. This is also awesome with blue cream crumbs mixed in. Then in becomes blue cheese dressing. Feel free to tweak the thickness and herbs to your taste. It keeps refrigerated for about a week.

Makes about 3/4 c

Ingredients

  • 1/3 c sour cream
  •  1/3 c mayo
  •  2-3 tbsp buttermilk (depending on desired thickness)
  •  1/2 tsp dill
  •  1/2 tsp parsley
  •  1/2 tsp oregano
  •  1/4 tsp paprika
  •  1/2 tsp chives
  •  salt and pepper to taste
  •  dash lemon  or cider vinegar (optional)

Directions

  1. Throw everything into a mason jar and shake, shake, shake. Taste for salt and check thickness.
