It’s official. Someone hang out a flag. We have switched to being a two pizza family when I make pizza at home. Now this might seem like an odd moment to mark in the grand scheme of things, but it’s not to me. We’ve had a single pizza be plenty for seven years worth of family pizza night and now I’ve got to start making more food. My babies are growing up! We start school in a few weeks and now it’s my middlest’s turn to go. Sniff. My littlest doesn’t even need my help at the playground anymore. It’s strange when you feel like you’ll be in baby mode forever and wake up one day to find out that’s not the case. Meanwhile, at least there is more pizza for leftovers and everyone has space now for their favorite topping (cheese, cheese, more cheese and pepperonis).

I like this sauce because it’s the exact right amount for two pizzas. You can also make it with the basic ingredients you already have on hand and it requires no cooking before you dump it directly onto the pizza. As you can see, I don’t even waste a bowl making mine. I just mix all of the ingredients right in the can, spread onto the pizza and you’re done. I do have a great recipe that I’ll post some time for a true, cooked pizza sauce that’s really fantastic, much better than this one when they are side by side. However, I next to never make that sauce. It just requires more forward planning than I’m capable of at the moment.

Ingredients

  • 1 8oz can tomato sauce

  • 1 tsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp oregano

  • 1/2 tsp basil

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp sugar (scant)

  • 1/2 black pepper

  • Salt (if needed)

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients. Taste to tweak for salt.
